Tuesday 6 to Friday 9 February 2001
I guess I did it again... waiting so long before writing a new entry. Sorry - it's just that I haven't had much inspiration for it. But let me tell you about Sunday the 28th of January.
I had had several toothaches over the past 4 or 5 months; sometimes it hurt a lot, but never enough for me to go see a dentist. I really don't like going to the dentist; plus, I've had so many toothaches in my life that went away by themselves, that I didn't think it was necessary to see a dentist for this one either. But on this Sunday morning, the pain was killing me. It had kept me practically awake all night, and in the morning it became unbearable. So, I got up really early for my standards, especially for a Sunday... I got up around 10.15, if I remember it well enough.
I dialed a phone number to see which dentist would have weekend duty, and I found out, so I called that one. I would have to be there in 10 minutes, or otherwise I'd have to wait until 17.00 (5.00 PM). Since it was a 10 to 20 minute drive, and I didn't know exactly where it was, I had to wait until 17.00.
That morning at first I watched a lot of tv, to forget about the pain a little bit - I even watched some sort of muslim 'church service' ; I don't know how it's called but I guess you know what I mean. One guy was singing in Arabic, while on tv they showed some sort of wall with images which probably was some kind of ancient text, and it was subtitled in Dutch and Turkish. Most of what this man was singing was like "There are people who want to have it all, in this life and after death too, but they are too greedy, they will go to hell and burn in the flames, and that's exactly what they deserve..." Nice religion! It really made me wonder why there are always problems in the Middle East.
Anyway, I got to the dentist at 16.45 (4.45 PM for the Americans among you) , and I didn't have to wait very long. It turned out that I had a wisdom tooth that was completely broken in two. The dentist said "okay, we're gonna pull that wisdom tooth" - as if it was nothing! While I was feeling like a little boy, being afraid of the dentist with all his scary appliances... :-)
Thank God that this wisdom tooth was in my upper jaw - it seems that the ones that cause so much trouble are in the lower jaw. I left the dentist's office at 17.30 (5.30 PM) , and at 19.30 I was already eating fries and egg rolls again, and I was feeling great... :-)
So, that was it - oh yes, I don't have a person or quote or whatever Of The Week (yet) - If I would *have* to choose someone, I would pick the radio guy from the USA who got a big fine for playing the original version of a song by Eminem. BY ACCIDENT. He didn't do it on purpose. But, good thing that the Religious Police -after good Saudi-Arabian example- was alert enough to notice this kind of disgusting behaviour.
Also, there were two 15-year old British school boys who threatened to kill the American president... it seems they have sent an e-mail, and they got the e-mail address from an internet site of the White House... so it has an internet site? And an e-mail address? Well I should really look it up then! I have a couple of things to say - although I must say that I don't expect the US government to listen to the thoughts of a guy from a pesky little country that George Dubbeljoe Bush himself probably wouldn't have even heard of if that country's laws wouldn't be so satanic in his eyes.
Right now it's Thursday, 2.09 AM, and this past day (Wednesday) I heard a rumour that Marilyn Manson has been sewed by the US government for smashing his head against a streetlight in a video... Yep, dear government, I must agree... he has done a lot of rotten things in his life, but THIS TIME HE WENT TOO FAR!!! :o) Good thing the American government haven't listened to the cd Holy Wood yet. By the way, I really hope that they (the US government as well as the judges) realize that if it comes to a conviction in court, that would be a violation of the Human Rights - but we all know they don't care about that, especially not George Dubbeljoe Bush himself. I see a big task for Amnesty International here. But to be honest, I think they have bigger things to do.

Two Quotes this week...
The first one, in the category Comedy (sub-category: Islam) , is this one, from a young Palestine (age unknown, I just know he was pretty young... probably in his puberty or adolescence) about the Intifada in Israel:
"If I will die in this battle, according to my religion I will be a martyr, and that means I will get 72 virgins in paradise."
The second one, one that is not funny at all, and beyond every category, is from a jury member at the World Press Photo uhm... election, or whatever. I mean where the World Press Photo of the Year was chosen. This year, the winning picture was, for the first time in years, not a picture of a violent situation. According to one of the jury members, this was pretty easy to do this year, because:
"The year 2000 was a year without big wars like the ones in Kosovo and Rwanda."
What does this quote indicate? The illeterateness and / or unworldlyness of the person who said it? I don't think so; I think it indicates the selectiveness in interests by the media.
Before I start telling you my point, I can tell you that it has been going on since about 1991, and in 1998 it got really bad... or something like that... I didn't find out about it until last April or May, and that was only because I read the special free newspapers you can get at the subway station here - I hadn't seen one big newspaper even mentioning it, until just a few weeks ago.
What am I talking about? The war in three African countries; in Dutch: Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinee. (I don't know the English names but I think there won't be much difference.)
Compared to this war, the events in Kosovo in 1999 don't even 'deserve' the word war. They would just be 'riots,' and certainly no more than that.
Back to the triangle in Western Africa: Grandmothers and grandchildren get locked up in houses, after which these houses are set on fire. In Liberia, little children are kidnapped - to serve as living shields, or boys to become soldiers and girls to be sex slaves. In Sierra Leone, 'warriors' enter houses and cut civilians' limbs off.
The previous paragraphs were written on Sunday 18th Feb, around 1.45 AM... and I was going to continue the next night, but right now it's Wednesday 21st Feb, 2.02 AM, and I can't continue with it. Nothing bad - in fact, it's something extremely GOOD!
It's always pretty easy to write about things that bother me, and get 'angry' about it... but on Sunday morning between 11.00 (AM) and 12.45 (PM) , I got the biggest feeling of love over me; it's the greatest and biggest feeling of love that I have ever felt, and I never thought I would ever feel this...............
The things I told you in the first part of this entry; they don't happen here... they happen on earth, a planet with 5,999,999,999 inhabitants. It used to have 6 billion, but one of them has been taken away by an angel, and she put him on a beautiful cloud high up in the sky... all those terrible things that happen on that pathetic planet called "earth", are now further away than ever. And right now I really don't feel like commenting about those things. I have better things to feel.
Thank you Dennisse, for taking me away from there and bringing me to paradise... I love you (^_^)
